COOKED IN AFRICA
The first thought that comes to mind is “what fun!” This is a cookery book that is genuinely different. Full of stunning photos of people, places, glorious food being cooked and eaten, anecdotes and even a glossary/translation of Justin’s colloquialisms/African slang, this book entertains as well as being full of recepies and unusual ways of cooking them. Chocolate vodka, dustbin pizza, Western Cape Waterblommetjies (water lilies), how to clean a crayfish, make champagne sauce and potjie bread – you don’t have to travel to try these wonderful recipes, but cooked out in the open, even in your back garden, does add to the excitement. Justin’s passion for life, for travelling, especially in Africa, and for cooking inspires one to cook under the stars, to try new combinations of taste, texture and colour, as he says “There is no better way to shrug off the pressures of modern living, than grab a bunch of mates and hit the road – immerse yourself in natural surroundings – and while you’re there, stop, cook up a storm and party on down.” Available From |
