JP is a young lad learning about life from the people who inhabit his world.  This includes his wise father, wheeler-dealer brother, his much loved younger sister, and old Mr Baradach who has a sad history to tell.  Along the way there are school friends, cousins and even other boys who prefer to bully rather than be friendly.

Beautifully written, the story has a message in that bravery, standing up for one’s principles and kindness all have their rewards and how the enjoyment of language, poetry, books and music can enrich even a youngster’s life.

Parents will enjoy this delightful book as much as children.  Set in Southern Rhodesia, coming from a poor background, JP masters his world against difficult odds – odds that many youngsters will be able to relate to in some way or another.
